HI!
Thanks for visiting!
My wife, Jacqueline, and I retired to Portland, Oregon just in time for lockdown in 2020. Turned out to be good place
to weather the pandemic, especially since our kids are here!
PS, Jacqueline’s a poet. Click here to see her work.
Art work:
Most pieces are derived from a single photograph, while some combine two or more, or include drawn elements.
Most of my work is involves symmetry, exaggerated and false colors, and from-somewhat-to-total abstractions of the
original images. They are mostly designed to be seen at large scale. Click for current artist statement.
Process:
To create my pieces, I use a variety of digital cameras to capture source images. These are processed and
manipulated with multiple software apps, as well as some hand-drawn bits. I sometimes use an AI app for
sharpening, but everything else is me. Some works come together in a few hours, but I work on most of them off and
on over weeks or months. At the moment, I have about 15 works in process.
Art cred:
Professional Photography program at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Attended a variety of individual drawing
and photography classes as well as a summer at the University of the Arts College of Art in Philadelphia.
Although I haven’t had any shows in a long time, I’ve been involved in art all my life; I’ve run a large photo club,
made websites for other artists, volunteered at galleries, taught amateur and professional workshops, and run artist-
only work-in-progress parties.
You're welcome to contact me if you have questions, answers, offers, complaints, concerns, crises, compliments,
commissions, etc.

Artist statement
Working intuitively, Mark explores the line between
the familiar and the abstract, the real and the
surreal. His process involves meticulously re-
imagining his original photographs, usually through
hundreds of manual manipulations using many
tools and techniques. The results are striking works
that are diverse in their emotional impact,
appearing at times dramatic and arresting, and at
others, quiet and serene.
Mark mostly grew up in New Jersey, and 7 states
later, now lives in Portland, Oregon. Mark’s passion
for photography began at age nine, eventually
leading him to study in the Rochester Institute of
Technology Professional Photography program, and
a Philadelphia University of the Arts drawing
program.
After years in commercial work, followed by an IT
career, Mark is now a full time artist. He is also a
father, husband, tech guy, reader, writer,
researcher, overthinker, doggie granddaddy, hiker,
activist, fixer, septuagenarian, song ruiner, talker,
tinkerer, and ally, among other things.
